Andre's Auto Centre on their ANDRE’S AUTO 40TH ANNIVERSARY Evan Dixon/Features Writer A LMOST A year removed from the first official case of COVID-19 that washed up on Jamaican shores, the country is still reeling from the impact of the eco- nomic and social blows that came along with it. Our entire social and economic landscape has undergone massive changes, with the duality of masks as a fashion statement and neces- sary protective gear being one of the many things that are a part of our ‘new normal’. Handshakes, high fives and fist bumps have been ushered out to make way for elbow touches and air hugs among friends and family. The hustle and bustle of Friday night ‘pars’ in packed venues is a distant memory, as persons must now keep at least 6ft apart. The change was swift and unex- pected, but for Andre’s Auto, a place that adapts to the unexpected as fast as the cars they service, change is nothing new for them. “I believe in changing with the times, because the only constant thing in life is change. With COVID, you have to adapt, and in analys- ing what it has done to people and people’s lives, you have to adjust your business to facilitate them. For instance, people are now gravitating tomore online mediums, because it has almost forced people to realise that they can purchase food online, order groceries, etc. So, what I’ve done at Andre’s Auto is increase our online presence, advertising the business and making doing business with us easy,” said Hylton. The convenience of doing busi- ness online is a strategy that we see many businesses trying to employ in lieu of the difficulty of movement with regard to the pandemic. With Andre’s Auto, if a customer has a car due to be serviced within the Kingston and St Andrew area, they arrange to have it picked up for servicing, and then dropped off upon completion of the service. Should the customer opt to bring the car in themselves, they have drivers assigned to drop custom- ers off at their workplaces. Hylton is a believer in customer satisfaction and customer convenience, and will facilitate customer needs as it relates to comfort and the caution that must be observed in public places because of COVID-19. Nevertheless, Hylton has taken measures to ensure his place of business observes all the necessary precautions, as he believes he has a responsibility as the man in charge to keep his staff and customers safe. “We have to ensure we move with the times, ensure that masks are being worn and sanitisation is a regular occurrence throughout the course of the day so people can feel protected when they enter our establishment. We always insist that HOW ANDRE’S AUTO KEEPS THE ENGINE GOING DURING COVID-19 Andre Hylton PLEASE SEE ENGINE , 15
