of finance, won The Gleaner’s top
Honour Award when he was named
Man of the Year during the 35th
Annual Gleaner Honour Awards
luncheon held on Monday, January 25, at The
Phillips also took home The Gleaner Honour
Award for Public Service for his role in managing
the country’s challenging financial portfolio
through the current IMF-impacted environment
and the creation of EPOC to monitor the country’s
performance during this period.
“I accept the award with great appreciation,
but quite frankly, it is an award to the Jamaican
people,” said Dr Phillips.
He further paid tribute to Prime Minister Portia
Simpson Miller and his cabinet colleagues, whom
he said supported the economic programme being
pursued by his dedicated ministerial team.
While basking in the celebration of excellence,
Dr Phillips said The Gleaner Honour Awards
highlighted the magic and miracles of business
innovation, voluntary social services, creativity
and artistry of Jamaicans.
“If we can get it all right, we will become the
greatest country on Earth,” he said.
