The Agency has recently been lauded by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) for its efforts to disrupt the inflow of weapons from Transnational Criminal Organisations. Jamaica Customs is the unified revenue and border agency within the Government of Jamaica, along with other law enforcement organisations, charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry. JCA is charged with securing the borders of the Jamaica while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel. THE JCA’S Contactless Clearance Process will become mandatory effective Tuesday, April 02, 2024. The process, which is currently available as an option, facilitates all non-commercial maritime cargo with a CIF value under US$5,000 being inspected by the Jamaica Customs Agency without the importer and/or their agent being present. In 2020, the JCA embarked on automating the application process for Returning Residents and Returning Students to facilitate more ease and efficiency, allowing passengers to access their benefits before travelling. Using the Online Portal, residents can upload the necessary documentation, view their progress regarding their requested returning resident status, as well as receive provisional approval.
