NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2020 6 JAMAICA WELLS AND SERVICES 50TH ANNIVERSARY J AMAICA WELLS and Services Limited’s 50th anniversary sees me in my 20th year with the company and in the industry. Over these years being with a company on the cutting edge of the well con- struction industry I have witness a myriad of changes. As the popula- tion increase in Jamaica along with growth and development of varying industries the demand for water has also increased. Economics dictates that as a resource become scarcer, then its value will increase. Forecasters have posited that in the near future wars will be fought over water, water is a finite resource therefore we all need to employ innovative ways to ac- quire, treat and distribute water to the masses safely and affordably. In our society there is a common belief that water should be free. However, even if one could success- fully argue that water itself should be as free as the air we breathe, one has to agree that unlike air which flows to our nostrils unaided, water does not flowunaided to our mouths and into our homes and offices for domestic and commercial use. There is a significant cost to deliver potable water in our pipes not tomention the cost for trucked water. Here at JamaicaWells and Services Limited we endeavour to operate as efficiently in our prospecting for this valuable resource. Over the years we have changed out our less efficient drilling equipment to the latest and most modern equipment, instead of drilling for weeks and months, drilling now takes days and as they say, time is money. We have also up- graded our well testing capabilities with cleaner operations, utilizing ul- tra-low sulfur diesel in all our diesel engines as standard practice. Our drilling fluids are all biodegradable and environmentally safe andmeet all the safety standards at home and abroad. As we continue to try to be a leader in the well construction in- dustry we are asking the Jamaican public to lock off pipes and fix leaky faucets report broken mains and do what you can to help protect this scarce resource and preserve Jamaica’s reputation of being the land of wood andmight I add, clean and pure water. We endeavour to operate efficiently Windward Lawrence, general manager on this big achievement and many wishes for future success from the AdverBrand Team
