NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, MAY 25, 2025 16 SAM SHARPE TEACHERS’ COLLEGE 50TH ANNIVERSARY FEATURE AS SAM Sharpe Teachers’ College celebrates 50 glorious years of teacher training, it is also jubilant about the strides made at keeping the research agenda alive. Building a robust culture of research is what staff and students at the college are embracing. At Sam Sharpe Teachers’College, we are excited about creating opportunities for the college community to participate in research ventures. Our research initiatives are embedded in the college strategic plan. We believe that a successful research agenda is the hallmark that institutions use to pivot the way they operate in academia. Subsequently, research helps to govern the trajectory of the changes we experience in the education landscape. By extension, collaborating with other institutions and organisations is part of our mission towards building a network of like-minded individuals. As we effect change in various ways using research, it is also our mission to increase research publications within the region for posterity purposes. To remain relevant in society, being a trailblazer in research is the gateway towards competing in the global marketplace. Some of our accomplishments to-date include: • Participating in the Teachers’ Colleges of Jamaica (TCJ) Biennial Research Conference • Publishing annual research newsletter • Hosting biennial research days and monthly research initiatives on campus • Empowering staff to publish research articles in scholarly journals • Incorporating surveys to increase research visibility on campus We thank all stakeholders in education that have vested interest in our development. Your input reassures us to accelerate our dedication at strengthening our research agenda. In the near future, we hope to expand our reach in research through innovation using cutting edge technology. We commend the entire college community for consistently representing the college at research conferences and community engagements.
