Since its inception on September 29, 1975, as Granville Teachers’ College, this institution has stood as a beacon of educational teacher training in western Jamaica. Renamed in honour of our National Hero, the Right Excellent Samuel Sharpe, the College has embodied his spirit of service, commitment, and excellence. Welcoming its first cohort of 150 students in 1975, the College has expanded its academic offerings to include 12 diverse programmes across early childhood, primary, and secondary education. Indeed, Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our nation. The recent introduction of Bachelor of Education degrees in Business Studies and Computer Studies exemplifies the College’s dedication to providing relevant and comprehensive education. As the Board of Management, teachers, past and present students and its stakeholders mark this golden jubilee under the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence, Advancing the Legacy’, the College continues to build on a foundation of remarkable accomplishment. Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College has not only upheld a legacy of academic distinction but has also played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of Jamaica. The institution is dedicated to producing educators of the highest calibre, impacting communities and countless lives.
