NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2025 3 FOR MORE than 60 years, the JTA Co-op Credit Union Ltd (JTACCUL) has remained steadfast in its mission to support the educational and financial well-being of Jamaica’s educators. That commitment was once again affirmed at the Annual Awards Ceremony held on August 29, 2024, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, where the JTACCUL recognised outstanding academic achievement through its 2024 PEP Bursary and Tertiary Scholarship Programme. Now in its 40th year, the Tertiary Scholarship Programme continues to reflect the JTACCUL’s dedication to empowering members in the final stages of their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. This year, eleven exemplary members received scholarships and grants amounting to $2.4 million. These recipients were not only committed to academic excellence but also to advancing the teaching profession. Among those honoured, Tanisha HibbertBryce was named the top performer and received the D. C. Gascoigne Award. Jamoi Crooks, the second-best performer, was presented with the W. A. Johnson Award. These prestigious awards commemorate two of the JTACCUL’s founding members and are bestowed upon individuals demonstrating exceptional performance across all assessment criteria. In addition to the tertiary awards, the JTACCUL celebrated the achievements of 62 children of its members who sat the 2024 Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations. Bursaries and grants valued at over $1.2 million were distributed to support their transition to secondary education. Nahjaun Solomon was recognised as Top Boy, and Destiny King was the Top Girl. Delivering remarks at the ceremony, JTACCUL General Manager Robert Ramsay emphasised the credit union’s unwavering commitment to education. As the financial institution dedicated to serving Jamaica’s educators, the JTACCUL views its scholarship initiatives not merely as awards, but as investments in national development. These programmes lie at the heart of the credit union’s mission, and as the JTACCUL continues to grow, so, too, will its commitment to empowering its members and shaping the next generation of leaders.
