BRIDGET JONES AND WILLIAM MAILER

BURSARY FOR FRENCH STUDIES (THE)

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

The award is available to students at Mona who

are registered in the Faculty of Humanities and Education;

are pursuing a substantial number of French courses. The

award will be based on, verifiable financial need; academic

achievement (at least a GPA of 3.0); involvement in co-

curricular activities would be an advantage.

Method of selection:

The successful candidate(s) will be

selected by a committee comprising personnel from Donor,

Bridget Jones and William Mailer Trust and the U.W.I.

Special Requirements:

Each applicant is expected to write and

submit a brief statement indicating how the Bursary will be

used. Before submission, the student should show the

statement to a UWI lecturer in French in order to obtain their

agreement to act as a referee for the application. The lecturer

should indicate their agreement by including on the statement,

their name, position, and their email address. Note that the

applicant is still required to submit a completed referee’s

affidavit, which forms a part of the application form.

Amount to be awarded:

To be determined by donor, up to a total

value of 500 GBP per year to be divided among the awardees.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR EDUCATION

The award is available to rural Jamaican nationals

who are registered full-time student in the Faculty of

Humanities and Education, majoring in Science or Math

Education and entering year 2 or 3

Method of selection:

Shortlisted candidates shall be

interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the

University and UWIDEF

Criteria:

The award will be based on high academic

performance (at least a GPA of 2.7), verifiable financial need,

participation in co-curricular activities, leadership qualities,

volunteerism and social involvement

Condition:

The recipient is required to complete 40 hours or

100 hours of voluntary services with the UWI Development

and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF).

CDN$1,000 (J$ equivalent)

JOE PEREIRA SCHOLARSHIP (THE)

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

The award is available to students pursuing studies

on the Mona Campus pursuing a first degree in the faculties of

Humanities and Education (Humanities-based), Social

Sciences or Science and Technology entering Level 2 or Level 3

of the degree programme. The award will be based on high

academic achievement in the annual University Examinations

(at least a GPA of 3.3), verifiable financial need.

Method of selection:

A panel comprising personnel from the

University and WIGUT (Jamaica) will interview short-listed

candidates.

Condition:

The recipient is expected to participate in fifty

(50) hours of voluntary service in an area of service approved

by WIGUT (Jamaica)

Number of awards being offered:

One

Amount being awarded:

$250,000 per annum

Duration:

One year

registered full-time in the Faculty of Humanities & Education;

majoring in Journalism and entering Levels two (2) or three (3)

of their programme.

Number of Award:

Amount awarded:

$125,000

Maximum Tenure:

One year

Criteria:

The award will be based on: strong academic

performance (at least a GPA of 3.0); demonstrable financial

need; verifiable involvement in co-curricular/community

involvement and leadership qualities.

Method of Selection:

Shortlisted candidates shall be

interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the

University and the Donor organisation.

Condition:

The recipient is expected to complete 100 hours

of Internship with the Nationwide News Network.

have had holiday job experience. The award will be based on

UWI will interview short-listed candidates.

THE SPANISH-JAMAICAN FOUNDATION (SJF)

BURSARY FOR MODERN LANGUAGES

Course of study:

Eligibility:

The award is available to students who are Jamaican

nationals, registered in the Faculty of Humanities and Education

pursuing a BA in Spanish and entering any level.

Criteria:

The award will be based on high academic

performance, verifiable financial need and participation in

co-curricular activities.

NB: Preference will be given to students

from St Ann, St James, Trelawny or Hanover.

Method of Selection:

Short-listed candidates will be

interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from The

Spanish-Jamaican Foundation, the UWI Development and

Endowment Fund and/or the Modern Languages

Department.
