Success consists of going from failure to failure

without loss of enthusiasm. – Winston Churchill

T

HERE ARE many things in life which

may cause people to fall off kilter. The

youth of present-day Jamaica are not

immune to the scourges of society and the

illusions of pop culture. When the demands and

the competition of an ever increasingly

globalised world are added, the youth must

subsist in a failure prone atmosphere.

Like many others, there have been times

where I have doubted the relevance of my

academic pursuits.

“Will I be able to manage the workload?”, “What

do I do after graduation?”And most importantly,

“How will I pay for it?” These were few of the

questions I asked myself as I prepared for the

transition into university. During the preparation

saga, I heard from a friend of a friend that there was

a company that offered scholarships to new

students. Pardon my cliché, but I had nothing to

lose, so I applied. The effort was worthwhile, as I

was chosen to be one of the recipients of The

Jamaica Energy Partners scholarship.

My encounter with the Jamaica Energy

Partners Family gave me the extra zeal that I

had needed. It is good to believe in oneself.

However, when others believe in you, you take

on a whole new level of confidence. Not only

was I to succeed for myself, but now it was

imperative that I do so because of the

investments that were made on my behalf.

The scholarship afforded to me goes well

beyond the payment of my tuition. It proves

that there are persons who genuinely care about

the future of the nation’s youth. Many times it

has been a source of inspiration and peace.

With one less worry, I can be more creative,

more innovative and more focused.
