UWI ACADEMIC BURSARIES

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

Available to full-time students from ALL faculties

who are enrolled in either Level II or III of the three-year

degree programme OR years two, three or four of the MBBS

Programme. The award will be based on academic

performance, based on applicant’s records, with special

reference to his/her performance in the most recent

university examination. A GPA of at least 3.3 is expected.

Amount awarded:

$30,000 per annum

Method of selection:

Short-listed candidates will be

interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives

from the UWI.

UWI VISA CARD SCHOLARSHIP

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

The award is available to students registered in an

undergraduate degree programme; students from any faculty;

students entering Level II or III; in the case of Medical

Sciences, Level IV or V of their programme of study.

Amount awarded:

$200,000

Number of awards:

Ten annually

Maximum tenure:

Two years

Criteria:

The award will be based on: performance based on

the previous academic years’ UWI examinations (GPA of at

least 3.0); involvement in co-curricular or community

activities; verifiable financial need; demonstrable leadership

potential.

Method of selection:

Short-listed candidates will be selected

by university personnel.

Special requirements:

The successful applicants will be

required to do 50 hours of voluntary service with The

Institutional Advancement Division as assigned by donor.

WIGUT BURSARIES (OFFERED BY THE WEST INDIES

GROUP OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS), JAMAICA WIGUT

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

The award is available to Jamaican nationals who

are pursuing studies on the Mona campus leading to a first

degree in any faculty; entering the Level II or Level III of the

degree programme. The award will be based on high

academic achievement in the annual university examinations

(at least a GPA of 3.3) and demonstrable financial need.

Amount awarded:

$40,000 per annum

Number of awards being offered:

To be decided by donor

Duration:

Two years (students in the MBBS degree

programme may be granted extended tenure)

Method of selection:

Short-listed candidates will be selected

by a panel comprising personnel from the University and the

WIGUT (Jamaica).
