entering Level II or level III in the Faculties of

Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities

and Education (one award per Faculty). The award

will be based on good academic performance,

verifiable financial need, participation and leadership

in co-curricular activities.

AMBASSADOR SUE COBB SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility:

The award is available to Jamaica

nationals or students of Jamaican parentage who are

registered at the UWI and who will be entering their

final year of study. The award will be based on high

academic performance in the last academic year’s

University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);

demonstrable leadership potential; significant

participation in co-curricular activities (e.g. sports,

music and/or the arts).

BRIDGET JONES AND WILLIAM MAILER

BURSARY FOR FRENCH STUDIES (THE)

Course of study:

Degree

Eligibility:

The award is available to students at

Mona who are registered in the Faculty of Humanities

and Education; are pursuing a substantial number of

French courses. The award will be based on verifiable

financial need; academic achievement (at least a GPA

of 3.0); involvement in co-curricular activities would

be an advantage.

Method of selection:

A committee comprising

personnel from donor Bridget Jones and William

Mailer Trust and the UWI will select a successful

candidate.

Special requirements:

Each applicant is expected to

write and submit a brief statement indicating how the

Bursary will be used. Before submission, the student

should show the statement to a UWI lecturer in

French in order to obtain their agreement to act as a

referee for the application. The lecturer should

indicate their agreement by including on the

statement, their name, position, and their email

address. Note that the applicant is still required to

submit a completed referee’s affidavit, which forms a

part of the application form.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR EDUCATION

Eligibility:

The award is available to rural Jamaican

nationals who are registered full-time student in the

Faculty of Humanities and Education, majoring in

science or math education and entering Year 2 or 3

Method of selection:

Shortlisted candidates shall be

interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the

University and UWIDEF

Criteria:

The award will be based on high academic

performance (at least a GPA of 2.7), verifiable financial

need, participation in co-curricular activities, leadership

qualities, volunteerism, and social involvement.

Condition:

The recipient is required to complete 40 hours or 100 hours of

voluntary services with the UWI Development and Endowmnet Fund

(UWIDEF).

JAMAICA AND COMMONWEALTH CARIBBEAN

RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS

2018

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates

for two (2) RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS to be awarded as

follows:

(a) The Jamaica Rhodes Scholarship available to candidates

from Jamaica only; and

(b) The Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes Scholarship, available

to all Caribbean candidates, including Jamaicans

(at the Committee’s discretion).

Candidates must have undertaken academic training sufficiently

advanced to assure the completion of a Bachelor's degree by

1st October, 2018.

Married candidates can now apply.

The criteria for selection by the Committees are as follows:-

Proven Intellectual and Academic Achievement

of a high standard is the first quality required of

applicants, but they will also be required to show

integrity of character, sympathy for and protection

of the weak, the ability to lead and the energy

to use their talent to the full.

The closing date for Jamaican and Commonwealth Caribbean

Rhodes Scholarships 2018 application is

September 30, 2017

by which date all completed entry forms must be received by the

Secretary.
