Indeed, I write this on behalf of my distinguished boardmembers,allofwhomareseniors andaccomplishedJamaicans:Honorary Chair, Hon Professor Denise Eldemire- Shearer, OJ; Honorary Director, Most Hon Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, ON, GCMG, OJ; Mrs Vilma McDonald, OD; Mrs Avrill Crawford; Mr Michael Fraser, OD; Dr Owen James, OD; Mr Dennis Jones, JP; Mr Kumar Sethuraman; Mr Peter Mais; and Director Emeritus AmbassadorAlounNdombet-Assamba. The National Council for Senior Citizens has announced that the theme for the 2020 Senior Citizens’ Week is ‘Advancing the Health and Well-being of Seniors Amid COVID- 19’. Our CCRP board director and IcongratulateNCSCfor theirdiligence, compassion T WO THOUSAND and twenty has been a difficult year for all, with COVID-19 affecting life and people around theworld. Older persons, especially 70 andover, have been under a stay-at-home order, given their vulnerability to the ef- fects of the disease. Congrats to the National Council for Senior Citizens for continuing to focus attention on seniors and for celebrating sen- ior citizens week under the theme, ‘Advancing theHealthandWell-being of Older Persons amid COVID-19’. While many of the usual activities are not possible, the week will focus onmanyaspectsof older persons and help families andcommunities tocel- ebrate the lives of their older persons. The director and staff of the council haveworked tirelesslyduring thepan- demic tohelpmeet theneedsof older persons ashavemanyother agencies, especially theministriesofHealthand Wellness and Local Government, as well as theNational Health Fund, and we salute all and thank themfor their concern and help. To all seniors, continue to fol- low the COVID-19 prevention and advice as you also look after your- selves, especially be active and in- teract with families and friends to avoid isolation. It is a different sen- ior citizens’ week but still a time to focus on the valuable contribution of older persons and all who serve them. Stay safe and be careful.
