NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 17 NCSC CONTINUED FROM VI XI SENIOR CITIZE S’ WEEK award-winning family physician Dr James spoke on our ‘CCRP Update’ radio programme recently, remind- ing seniors that it was important for them to follow the protocols set down by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. He said that non-commu- nicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, referred to as co- morbidities, weaken the immune system and so persons with these conditions should ensure that they manage themwith the guidance of their doctors. I appeal to the families and friends of our seniors to keep in close touch with them to ensure that they have necessary supplies andmedications, as we understand that some are afraid to go out to renew their prescriptions, and this can indeed further damage their immune system. Please call your elders regularly, booking time to have a good con- versation as this will lift their spirits and contribute to their good health. Their stories are rich and encour- aging. It is when you hear about their struggles and sacrifices that you value the contribution they have made, and you realise your own potential to rise above your challenges. CCRP has partnered with Food For The Poor and the Jamaica Constabulary Force to distribute care packages to our elderly indi- gent islandwide. We also received several boxes of supplies from the Digicel Jamaica Foundation, which were distributed to the Allman Town community, the St Anthony’s Kitchen in Negril and infirmaries in Clarendon and St James. We thank Gallagher Insurance Brokers Jamaica, Sagicor Life Jamaica and Jamaica National General Insurance for their excel- lent partnership which offers health, life, property and auto insurance to our members at greatly reduced costs. We are also grateful to our more than 70 discount partners who offer considerable relief to our more than 10,000 members. Our membership numbers are a wel- come milestone as we celebrate our 10th anniversary. I congratulate the National Council for Senior Citizens for their diligence and compassion. We have referred cases of elder abuse to them and they have been thor- ough in their investigations and actions. We thank the NCSC team, led by Mrs Cassandra Morrison, for their continued efforts, despite the pandemic, to celebrate Jamaica’s precious seniors. We join with the NCSC in wishing Jamaica’s seniors a happy National Senior Citizens’ Week and assure them of our continued support so that, in the words of our motto, they will enjoy ‘Life to the Fullest’.
