She was introduced to family medicine very early, as her father was a general practitioner; her mother was a housewife. She was the youngest of three siblings. Raised as a Muslim prior to attending a Roman Catholic boarding school at age eight, she converted to the Catholic faith and remains a faithful Roman Catholic to this day. After completing high school, she wanted to pursue medicine but was advised against this career path because of the duration and rigorous nature of the programme.
