The House subsequently gives a third reading to the Bill and as soon as the governor gives his assent, steps will be taken to recruit personnel for the corporation and then to set it in operation with an initial allocation of a quarter of a million pounds. Newton’s admitted masterly exposition of the economic policy of the Government in setting up two development corporations for agriculture and industry, draw acclamation for the projects from Robert Kirkwood, who seconded themotion for a second reading, as well as from other speakers. 1966: The Immigration and Passpor t offices at 97B Church Street open to the public. The new office provides adequate seating facilities for the public and parking arrangements for motor vehicles. 1970: Th e Cun a r d Line cruise ship Carmania arrives in Kingston on a Caribbean cruise out of Port Everglades, Florida. She brings 370 American trippers and docked at the No.1 Railway Pier. She sails in the afternoon in continuation of her cruise. 1974: Two of twenty persons charged with failing to provide a proper metal water-tight container for storing garbage, which is a breach of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation’s regulations, plead guilty in the Sutton Street Court.
