A Tribute to Dr. The Hon. Rae Davis
NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, MAY 23, 2021 12 TRIBUTE TO DR RAE DAVIS IV I TWAS with great sadness that I heard of the death of Dr the Hon Rae Davis, OJ. When I became chancellor of the uni- versity in 2000, I met Rae, who was then four years into his post as presi- dent of UTech, Jamaica. I met a quiet, dis- tinguished man whose demeanour projected confidence and author- ity; someone who knew his role in life and recognised the importance of his work at UTech Jamaica. I had heard of his earlier roles as an educator, administrator, and policymaker, and I could recognise those experiences being put into practice in his role at the university. Above all, I saw that his aim in all that he did was to ensure the best education and support for his students and the Jamaican community. I was proud to work alongside Rae. The UTech Ja family and the wider community in Jamaica will dearly miss him. My sympathies go out to his family, and especially Jemelia, who I was pleased to meet on many of my visits to Jamaica. He will be much missed.
