The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority Celebrates 25 Years
NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, MAY 2, 2021 14 JAMAICA CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY 25TH ANNIVERSARY T ODAY I join with the board, management and staff of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) as they celebrate 25 years of existence in the air transportation sector. The JCAA plays a pivotal role in Jamaica’s development, and is a shining example of the outstandingwork of our local regulatory body in improving the island’s aviation industry. Indeed, the JCAA has observed the highest aviation standards which places it as a leading entity in the region and across the world. Jamaica’s aviation industry and its professionals are respected throughout the region and within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), pri- marily due to the dedicated team of management, staff and board of directors. Since its inception, the JCAA has excelled in its role as the primary regulator of the local aviation industry, providing leadership and oversight while ensuring its efficiency, safety, adherence to international standards, and sustainable development. On behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, I salute the hard-working and committed men and women of the JCAA who, through their consistent efforts, ensure the proper functioning of the industry even in the midst of the present challenging global pandemic – COVID-19. The JCAA is critical to the continued economic and social evolution of Jamaica, and the achievements of the national development targets outlined in Vision 2030. On achieving your milestone 25th anniversary, I ex- press the gratitude of all Jamaicans, as the authority continues to work in service to our wonderful nation, Jamaica land we love. I wish for the JCAA many more years and future successes. The JCAA emerged out of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), which was established in 1947. Their collective history has produced an impressive record of spearheading industry-wide safety regulations and necessary air navigation services. Jointly, the organisation celebrates ‘25 Strong, 75 years along!’ The JCAA is responsible for many vital services related to aviation, including air navigation, economic regulation, safety and security oversight, and corporate services. Jamaica is grateful for the JCAA’s vigilant oversight and commit- ment to excellence in aviation, a field in which nothing less will do. Congratulations to the entire JCAA team on this milestone achievement. I wish you continued success for years to come! MARK J.
