Scholarship to go 2021

NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | THURSDAY, MAY 27, 2021 5 S CHOLARSHIPS ARE often the only an- swer for many accomplished students who want to further their education. It’s the first step for those without the financial resources to even start the educational process, and for others scholarships are a necessary sup- plement for meeting overall educational costs. FIRST HERITAGE Co-operative Credit Union (FHC) through its vision formed the FHC Foundation to provide outreach that will uplift its members, children of members and communities. Since its inception, a key initiative of the FHC Foundation has been to improve access to educational opportunities through the provision of grants and schol- arships to students who meet the required eligibility profile, as oftentimes scholarships are the only opportunity for those with limited resources to acquire higher education. NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS FHC Foundation offers that helping hand through a number of scholarship offerings at both the primary and tertiary levels. Primary- level students can access the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) Scholarship, the PEP one-time bursary, or The Jamaica Credit Union League’s PEP Award. Tertiary Scholarships include both the Renald Mason and The Oswald Thorbourne scholarships. All FHC scholarships and bursaries are offered to members and their children who exhibit a combination of good academic achievements, participation in community activities through volunteerism and leadership skills, among others. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting us since 2020, we still believe in keeping our commitment to engage and provide these scholarships to our members as the times are even harder than before, as many parents have lost their jobs or taken less pay because of the pandemic. We stand by our promises and dedication to inspire individuals to take advantage of every opportunity to make their dreams come true. We believe in empowering young minds and equipping them to reach their full potential, and will continue to do so through our scholarship programme. Scholarship applications are now open and the deadline to apply is July 30.
