NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, JUNE 9, 2024 33 JTA 60TH ANNIVERSARY FEATURE THE JAMAICA Teachers’ Association congratulates three educators honoured by Lasco as tops in their categories. They are, for 2023, Principal of the Year, Rayon Simpson; Teacher of the Year, Franklin Burrell, and TVET Teacher of the Year, Ilene Cohall Bailey. Simpson is the principal of Belmont Academy in Westmoreland, Burrell is a chemistry teacher at St Andrew High School for Girls, and Cohall Bailey is a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) teacher at Manning’s School. The three outstanding educators, who were chosen from a pool of 130 nominees, were recognised at last December’s ceremony which was to award the 2023 winners. The function was held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. The JTA says it is proud of the accomplishments of the educators and the impact that they have had over the years. “We look forward to greater things on the horizon from you as you continue to unearth knowledge and encourage our youths to rise to conquer new frontiers and, in other instances, find themselves. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the field of education and remember, the JTA in particular is your friend for a lifetime,” the JTA said in a release. “As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, please note that we value you but particularly those of you who have been recognised by the Lasco Foundation as the creme de la creme, but for those looking on, we equally thank you for your continued service,” the JTA said.
