CONTRIBUTED Sagicor Foundation empowers youths through education T HE SAGICOR Foundation con- tinues to disburse millions in scholarships annually to sup- port the educational aspirations of Jamaican students. The foundation’s scholarship programme provides financial assistance to students at the tertiary and secondary levels in an effort to ease the financial bur- den families face in funding their children’s education. Through the programme, the Sagicor Foundation awards the nation’s top students with schol- arships valued at up to $250,000 annually for tertiary students and $50,000 annually for secondary students. Scholarships are open to Sagicor clients and/or their chil- dren and Sagicor team members’ children. We currently have over 150 scholars under the programme and disbursed over $25 million in scholarship funds last year for new and renewing students. For the tertiary scholarships, stu- dents are selected based on aca- demic performance, community involvement, volunteerism, strong leadership potential and financial need. To engender a spirit of vol- unteerism, tertiary scholars are required to complete at least 20 hours of voluntary service with the Sagicor Foundation. In addition to annual scholar- ships, the foundation provides grant support valued at $40,000 for one school year to children of Jamaica Defence Force service members.
