It is my commitment to do all I can to realise that dream.”– Michael Lee-Chin, chairman of NCB Financial Group. This year, an additional 150 students will receive support for their schooling courtesy of National Commercial Bank (NCB). NCB will afford 500 students the opportunity to become proud recipients via its annual Scholarships and Grants Programme. Over the past 12 years, NCB Foundation has spent more than $350 million to sup- port the nation’s youth in achieving their academic dreams and realising their po- tential. This year, more than $60 million is up for grabs for students at the primary through to tertiary levels. First-year applicants at local tertiary institutions have available to them the opportunity to take home the National Champion award, valued at $600,000, as well as the Parish Champion award, valued at $300,000. Various grants and one-off support initiatives are also available. At all levels, students can apply for the ‘We Believe in You’ fund, where they can receive up to $100,000. Additionally, there is the teach- er-education grant, valued up to $100,000, as well as various book voucher grants of $15,000 to $20,000 awarded to students at the primary to sixth-form levels. However, the list does not stop there. An acronym for ‘Innovative, Creative, Outstanding and Nationalistic’, the unique ICON award, launched in 2016, is meant for students wishing to pursue areas of study such as animation, aviation, com- puter science, fashion design, fine arts, logistics and engineering – non-traditional but disruptive career paths. As an avid supporter of nation-building through youth development and educa- tion, the NCB Foundation remains com- mitted to spearheading the drive to help students achieve their academic dreams. For more than a decade, this programme has awarded thousands of students from the primary through to tertiary levels with scholarships and grants towards their schooling. This year, the philanthropic arm of NCB seeks to increase its impact and reach by expanding the number of awardees from 350 to 500 and adding an extra $100,000 towards scholarships for national scholars. The foundation continues to contribute to nation-building through youth empower- ment and education, according to Nadeen Matthews Blair, CEO, NCB Foundation. “Education is very much a part of our DNA. It is the area of giving back that we are most passionate about at NCB,” she explained.
