NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2024 24 FHC FOUNDATION is thrilled to have launched the FHC Sports Education Scholarship, a commendable initiative reflecting their commitment to fostering the growth and development of the next generation through sports education. Newly introduced, the FHC Foundation has strategically positioned its Youth, Education, and Sports (Y.E.S.) pillars with sports taking the lead. This significant focus on sports education underscores the Foundation’s commitment to empowering the youth population through athletic and educational opportunities. Year over year, FHC has been dedicated to awarding scholarships and grants valuing upwards of $1million dollars, to Primary Exit Profile (PEP) students and tertiary level students from institutions islandwide. These scholarships and grants have played a crucial role in alleviating the financial burden faced by students and parents alike, ensuring that deserving individuals have access to quality education and opportunities for academic and professional growth. Launched in 2023, the FHC Sports Education Scholarship marked the beginning of FHC’s commitment to recognising and supporting excellence in sports education. The initiative broadens the scope of support from just professional athletes, to other professions that play a supporting role in cultivating world class sportsmen and sportswomen, namely, coaches, physiotherapists and other complementary professions. The scholarship is open to students across all years of study. “We are honoured to award Terrick Smith with this scholarship in recognition of his dedication and passion for sports education,” said Michelle Tracey, assistant general manager of Marketing, Communications and Member Experience at FHC Credit Union. “Through the FHC Foundation Sports Education Scholarship, we aim to empower students like Terrick to pursue their academic aspirations with a view to elevating the quality and volume of sports professionals hailing from Jamaican soil. We believe it is also critical that as we deepen our focus on sports, our athletes have ready access locally to the supplemental services required to enable them to perform at their best, including coaching, sports medicine and physiotherapy services along with other supporting needs without having to leave Jamaica to access services of the highest standard.” Terrick Smith distinguished himself among the outstanding pool of applicants with his commitment to sports education and his potential to make a positive impact in the field. His passion and drive resonate with the values of the FHC Foundation Sports Education Scholarship. The FHC Credit Union and the FHC Foundation are committed to continuing this scholarship programme in the coming years, supporting more students in their pursuit of excellence. Scholarship applications will be open in June 2024 and all eligible students are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this exciting opportunity to further their education. Through various initiatives, including scholarships, financial education, and community outreach programmes, FHC Credit Union strives to make a positive difference in the lives of its members and the broader community.
