The centre of Omar rapidly moves away from the Northern Leeward Islands

At 4.00 a.m. the centre of Hurricane Omar was located near latitude 19.1 degrees north and longitude 63 degrees west or about 110 kilometres west of St. Martin.
                    
Omar is moving towards the northeast near 41 km/hr and this motion, with a gradual increase in forward speed is expected to continue during the next 24 to 48 hours.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 205 km/hr with higher gusts. Omar is a category three Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Stronger winds, especially in gusts are expected over elevated terrain. Some weakening is forecast over the next 24 hours.
 
Hurricane Omar is not a threat to Jamaica.
