Keneea Linton-George Profile

Keneea Linton-George

At nine years old, Keneea Linton-George was using the discarded legs of her mother's jeans pants to fashion her own skirt. Today, she is a renowned designer and the owner of Keneea Linton Boutique.

Growing up, fashion designing was not in the cards for Linton-George. She told Flair: "I wanted to be an actress, a bank manager or hotel manager - never a designer."

But fate had other plans. "While studying philosophy at UWI (University of the West Indies), I was doing fashion on the side and it picked up."

Today, chic, sophisticated, elegant designs distinguished by soft, feminine silhouettes are the trademark for of Linton-George's pieces whose designs are about 80 per cent a reflection of who she is. That is simply because, "When I started designing, I designed mostly for myself."

Today, she has achieved her objective of making women who wear her designs feel, classy, elegant, powerful, and sophisticated - full of confidence, beautiful and elegant. As she put it, "elegance never goes out of style."

Kerry-Ann Clarke Profile

Kerry-Ann Clarke

Kerry-Ann Clarke is passionate about what she does. The founder of the lifestyle store Kerrymanwomanhome, and managing director of The Collection MoDA, told Flair, "When you have a passion, you just know it. There's no guessing. It's something in your 'gut' that you feel. I've felt it ever since I can remember, and creativity in every shape and form still excites and resonates with me today."

That passion lead her, six years ago, to create what is without a doubt the premier fashion event on the island - The Collection MoDA.

"The Collection MoDA has been a great journey thus far and I am quite pleased with the growth from year to year. The vision for the MoDA platform is for it to become the leading trade-show platform for creative Caribbean talent. We are looking to partner with business professionals to guide MoDA creatives on taking their business to the next level so that they can focus on the design elements of their craft and be able to fulfil wholesale orders from not only stores in the Caribbean, but also be equipped with the knowledge and tools to start exporting to additional markets."

Dania Beckford Profile

Dania Beckford

While being motivated by life is a vague concept for many, for designer Daynia Beckford, it's a driving force.

"My mother always says, 'Once there is life, there is hope', and going through this life, sometimes you will feel helpless. But I consider myself a life junkie. I am always waiting for the high of the next great experience that I will go through," Beckford boldly declared.

It took more than a dream for Beckford to gain her triumph. It began years ago with a bold, brash, and confident nine-year-old Beckford giving pep talks to people her senior. It's a talent that she has gained from her experience as a Jehovah's Witness.

Excellence

In a highly competitive world, Beckford sits on a high pedestal basking in her glory as a corporate-image consultant, owner and co-designer of Broad Tail Designs (a clothing company that caters to the needs of plump women).

Gianna Fakhourie

Lecturer at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts; Head Sweet Tooth at the Original Arm Candy; Creator of the Gift Genie and Plus Size Model, and wife are just a few titles held by Gianna Fakhourie.

Fakhourie is fuelled by a never-ending energy to get things done and a passion to make an impact on the lives of those around her.

For Fakhourie, every challenge is an opportunity for growth and improvement, and she is not afraid to go back to the drawing board. "Every new client is starting from scratch, so I am still very much figuring things out with every new venture or pitch" she explained to Flair.

With the change in tide within the fashion industry, Fakhourie has embraced the revolution and is capitalising on it. "Sports Illustrated now has plus size models in swimsuits! The plus industry on a whole is on the cusp of its big boom. People wear jewellery just as much for the fashion as they do the materials. So they are seeking out affordable brands to have more options," she explained, establishing her position.
