Create a budget - Sounds simple? Yes, but Black Friday sales, especially severely discounted specials available in limited quantities, are designed to get you in store or shopping online.
Start early - Don't wait until the last day of the sale to start shopping, the best deals normally run out of stock by Saturday.
Check store policies in advance - It's always good to know a store's return and refund policies, in case the item is damaged or faulty. Keep ALL receipts.
Use websites and apps - keeping track of prices is a good way to estimate how good the deals really are leading up to Black Friday. Websites and apps can also be used to track what items would normally sell or if you can't make it to the store yourself.
Get Social - Retailers often utilize social media platforms to spread the word about deals and discounts. Some will also reward customers who are actively following and engaging with their pages on each platform.
Be vigilant towards scams - With more people shopping online than ever before since the pandemic, scammers are seeking to take advantage of any opportunity to con people. Ensure the websites have the green padlock symbol in the address bar with a URL that starts with HTTPS. This symbolizes that the website is secure and any data you enter into the site, such as your bank details, will be encrypted and unreadable by prying eyes. Never share your pin or banking details with anyone.
Beware of pickpockets - ensure all vehicle are secured when shopping. Ensure all bags and knapsacks are worn in front and close to the body at all times. This helps to prevents 'sticky' hands from reaching in and stealing. Walk with limited amounts of cash. Instead, rely on your trusty debit card for purchases.
Rethink nonessentials - This applies to those that may have outstanding credit and debit card debts. Try to focus on items that are a need rather than a want
