Did animals warn of Hurricane Dean?

The howling of the dog they say, tells that someone will die soon. While in the South Asian Tsunami of 2004 flamingos and elephants were seen fleeing to the Mountains before the tsunami attack.
Hurricane Dean Watch has already received similar reports this time around. But can pets really help us in this way?
Charmaine Johnson, Manager at Pet Paradise store in Red Hills, St. Andrew, said that birds in the store before the arrival of Dean, were quite agitated and chirped loudly and vigorously. Meanwhile Ms. Johnson’s own shiatsu-poodle: “was a nervous wreck, he was panicking and trembling at the sway of the trees. He kept coming to me to lift him and give him protection.”
“I am now convinced that animals can tell what will happen,” she added.

So remember, especially with the hurricane season lasting until November 30, that next time your dog or birds get ‘excited’, it might just be a warning from Mother Nature.

This is true. I don’t have a pet now but back in Hurricane Gilbert I had two cats. I remember, hours before the storm was scheduled to arrive, we were not yet experiencing any signs of the storm. My mother and I sat on a bed talking when suddenly our two cats dashed in as if they were being chased and headed under the bed. We were amazed but could not get them to come out. They remained there till the hurricane was past. It was then that we realised that they seemed to have known of the impending danger.
I guess it’s the same reason why ants take position in our homes just before heavy rains appear. Instinct.

I believe there is some truth to this. My parents who lived through Hurricane Gilbert recounted how the cocks in their area were crowing at midday and other animals were behaving erratically before the onslaught. Dogs, especially, have very keen senses and seem to know when something or someone is approaching even before humans do.

Well if we need any more signs from our animals the next time disaster is approaching. Just listen for the birds. They dissappeared at least two days before the storm hit.

I believe that animals do show signs of changes in weather and even indicate when there is a death coming to someone close to you, for example birds will sometime fly through the house or peck on the window if they can’t have access to get in. The native Indians of North American uses the signs of animals to guide their daily path in life . Note next time that you see sea gulls in land that there will be rain coming or even cricket crying at your door indicate death of someone close to you.

With all that killing going on in Jamaica, maybe we need alot more cricket instead of dogs.

Some people seem to be confused: animals can sense danger, whether in the form of a natural disaster (such as a volcanic eruption or a hurricane), or in the form of an unknown, and possibly dangerous, person approaching. We know that, it is nothing new. That fact has nothing to do with the human tendency to try to foretell the future. Let’s try to keep nature and superstition separate, shall we?
