important trade lanes in global value chains, enabling

extensive cargo connectivity to global markets. It is cen-

trally located between North and South America and

within the Caribbean.

KINGSTON CONTAINER TERMINAL

The Port of Kingston is an important asset to Jamaica

but more important, it is a major trans-shipment hub

serving the region and acts as the main gateway port for

the maritime cargo trade in Jamaica.

KINGSTON WHARVES LTD

Kingston Wharves Limited is one of the Caribbean’s

leading multipurpose terminal operators and operates in

Port Bustamante adjoining Kingston Container Terminal.

3) PORTLAND BIGHT

INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

This is an unsolicited proposal for the development of a

deep water port/industrial park. The development contem-

plates a design, finance, build, operate, and transfer conces-

sion agreement with a duration of 49 years and subject to

renewal. The project envisages an industrial park of more

than 2,400 hectares (6,000 acres), and a trans-shipment

port built to accommodate all container vessels that are

likely to pass through this region. The development is

expected to create over 10,000 jobs and business opportuni-

ties for a wide variety of industry interests.

The Government will provide the lands but no traffic

or financial guarantees.

4) A PORT COMMUNITY

SYSTEM: KEY FEATURES

A neutral and open electronic platform enabling intel-

ligent and secure exchange of information between pub-

lic and private stakeholders in order to improve the com-

petitive position of the sea and air ports’ communities.

It manages and automates port and logistics processes

through a single submission of data, and connecting

transport and logistics chains.

5) VERNAMFIELD DEVELOPMENT

The project proposes the establishment of an interna-

tional multimodal, industrial and commercial airport,

offering a wide range of aviation facilities and capabili-

ties. The development is a large and multifaceted project

centred on the redevelopment of a 2,000-metre long

concrete runway located in the parish of Clarendon.

The project will feature

Air cargo with logistic services capabilities

Airline maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO)

Aviation training school

General aviation

Light manufacturing and assembly (Free zone)

6) CAYMANAS ECONOMIC ZONE

This special economic zone, proposed for the Caymanas

Estate lands, will consist of 1,500 acres of prime real estate,

situated at the confluence of the major population centres

of Kingston, Spanish Town and Portmore, of which 40 acres

have been marked for the development of phase 1 of an

information and communications technology (ICT) park.

The ICT park will house facilities for software develop-

ment, telecommunications/co-location sites, bio-tech-

nology, business process outsourcing, IT/security consul-

tancy and a network operations centre.

The zone will be the first large-scale integrated industrial

zone in Jamaica, with particular emphasis on manufacturing,

logistics management, trans-shipment, dry docking, and

services under the ambit of an integrated industrial zone.
