THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL OF JAMAICA FEATURE | MONDAY, MARCH 5, 2018
A
S THE University Council of Jamaica (UCJ)
celebrates its 13th Annual Quality Assurance
in Higher Education Week, under the
theme ‘Enhancing and Sustaining
Quality in Institutions’, I commend
the agency for its unwavering
commitment to its develop-
mental role and nation building.
In October 2017, the UCJ
celebrated its 30th anniversary,
and the high-level support
from institutions and other
stakeholders is a testament to
the agency’s contribution to
national development and best
practice principles for quality assurance locally,
regionally and internationally.
The UCJ’s independence and its quest for con-
tinuous improvement will ensure that our institu-
tions’ focus will be on developing their internal
quality assurance system, which, in turn, will
result in improved student learning outcomes.
As the UCJ continues to play an active role
on the board of the Caribbean Area Network
for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education;
its participation at a strategic level in the
International Network for Quality
Assurance Agencies in Higher Education;
and the Council for Higher Education
Accreditation’s International Quality
Group, I am confident that the
country will reap the benefits of
new-found knowledge and best
practice in quality assurance.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education,
Youth and Information, I extend congratu-
lations to the council, executive director and
staff of the UCJ for their commitment to
enhancing and sustaining quality in institutions.
I wish you best wishes for a successful week,
and I look forward to participating in at least
one of the activities during this important time
in our nation’s calendar.
SENATOR RUEL REID
Minister of Education, Youth and
Information
Maintain your high quality
and the broad reach
THE JAMAICAN nation is indebted to the
University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) for 30
years of uplifting the cause and quality
of higher education. All efforts to
transform other areas of education; all
plans for economic growth and social
cohesion are largely founded on the
extent and quality of the tertiary sec-
tor.
Over the life of the UCJ, the twin
objectives of increased access and the
highest quality have been blended. Good
partnerships have been created between public and private
offerings.
Going forward, the UCJ is challenged to maintain the
highest quality standards and the broadest reach for the
advancement of the nation.
Congratulations and best wishes.
